Implementation of DECIDE Project has begun in Odessa Oblast

On July 10, 2020, a briefing “New opportunities for education in communities” dedicated to the launch of the Swiss-Ukrainian Project DECIDE – “Decentralization for Improved Democratic Education” was held in Odessa Oblast. The project is supported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, Ministry for Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, Odessa Regional State Administration, State Service of Education Quality of Ukraine, All-Ukrainian Association of the Amalgamated Territorial Communities.

Valentyna Poltorak, DECIDE Project Manager, Deputy Chairman of NGO DOCCU, presented the project to the participants of the briefing. Natalia Protasova, DECIDE Project Director, Head of NGO DOCCU, spoke about the project’s goals and new opportunities for education management in the region.

Denys Musienko, Chief of Staff of Odessa Regional State Administration, congratulated the participants of the event and expressed readiness for cooperation: “We sincerely welcome DECIDE Project in Odessa Oblast. We are ready to join the active work on developing the system of education quality in communities, creating prospects for democratic management of schools in cities and villages. Odessa has its own regional features, we are a multinational and multicultural region. Therefore, it is important for us not only to develop the education system in communities, but to create a modern, truly democratic education providing everyone with equal opportunities and prospects. We are ready to support the initiatives of DECIDE Project and to promote its implementation at the regional and community level in any possible way”.

Rolf Gollob, Head of the team of strategic experts of DECIDE Project, Zurich University of Teacher Education (Switzerland), emphasized the importance and timeliness of implementing DECIDE Project for Ukraine: “Ukraine is currently implementing a number of important reforms. Among them is the education reform, which aims to change the education quality, make the management democratic, transparent and accountable. Switzerland has a positive experience in democratic education management. For many years, Swiss citizens have been involved in making and implementing education policies at the community level. Therefore, we will be ready to cooperate with our Ukrainian partners. We are sure that the Swiss experience will be important for development of new education of Odessa Oblast – education of equal opportunities”.

The event was attended by representatives of the amalgamated territorial communities, teachers, representatives of Odessa Regional State Administration and representatives of the media.
