Chernihivska community is one of those that consistently and systematically develops career guidance for schoolchildren. Although the 2024/2025 academic year marked the launch of DECIDE: VET initiative, today the city is already confidently working within the framework of the national pilot career guidance system and scaling up successful practices!
The results are tangible, and the figures speak for themselves!
In just six months of active work within the national pilot programme in Chernihiv:
- 496 career guidance events were held for children and adolescents in the community;
- 3,410 schoolchildren took part in the activities;
- over 530 parents attended information meetings;
- 27 schools in the city have career advisors who help students in Grades 8–9 take their first conscious steps in choosing their future educational and professional paths.
Two DECIDE career guidance hubs, based at the Chernihiv Professional Lyceum of Railway Transport and the Chernihiv Centre for Vocational and Technical Education, have become important centres for the implementation of these initiatives. These are modern spaces where adolescents can literally ‘touch’ their future profession.
These hubs, excursions to enterprises, institutions and organisations in the city, and individual consultations enable adolescents to:
- explore their strengths and interests;
- learn about the labour market at the community level – enterprises, institutions, businesses;
- learn to make decisions about their professional future and career.
These results confirm that career guidance is not just a formality, but a truly strategic tool for community development that contributes to the development of human capital. After all, when young people choose a profession consciously, the community gains motivated professionals who see opportunities to live and work in their city.
Together, we create opportunities for every schoolchild!
